Why is a competitor ranking above me on Google Maps?

Google ranks the map pack on relevance, distance, and prominence, and prominence is where most local businesses lose. Reviews, profile completeness, local citations, website signals, and proximity all move it. A grid scan shows where you're outranked so the cause is visible, not guessed.

My Maps ranking dropped. What happened?
